Summon gestures
Ruru is designed to be summoned in milliseconds without breaking your focus. Learn about the three global summon gestures, caret tracking, and the floating orb.
Three summon gestures
1. Global hotkey (⌥ Space)
Press ⌥ Option + Space from any application. Ruru determines the active window and positions the floating orb near your current caret or mouse position.
2. Inline caret trigger (@@)
Type @@ in any editable text area — inside VS Code, Xcode, Slack, Notes, or your web browser.
The moment summon is accepted, Ruru automatically removes the two @@ trigger characters so your writing remains clean.
3. Double-Shift (⇧⇧)
Tap ⇧ Shift twice in rapid succession. This provides a lightning-fast summon without moving your fingers away from the home row.
The floating orb & caret anchoring
When summoned, Ruru anchors a compact floating orb right above or below your active text insertion point.
- Caret Memory: Ruru remembers the exact application and caret coordinates that originated the summon, ensuring the generated answer returns to the right spot.
- Interactive States: The orb displays distinct feedback animations for Thinking, Reading context, Tool calling, Streaming answers, and Ready.
- Dismissal: Press Esc at any time to close the orb and return immediately to your work.
