Quick actions
Highlight text in any application and act on it immediately. Ruru's selection toolbar provides instant AI actions without requiring you to switch contexts.
Triggering quick actions
Whenever you select text in an editor, browser, email client, or terminal, Ruru detects the selection highlight and offers quick actions either via the floating toolbar or upon pressing ⌥ Option + Space.
Available actions
- Ask: Places the selection into the composer as context and lets you type a custom follow-up prompt.
- Explain: Breaks down complex functions, regular expressions, shell scripts, or dense paragraphs.
- Improve / Refactor: Rewrites the selection for enhanced readability, conciseness, or code quality.
- Summarize: Produces an executive summary or key bullet points from long documents.
- Translate: Accurately converts text between languages, preserving technical formatting and code blocks.
- Copy: Copies formatted text or extracted content to your clipboard.
- Search Web: Launches a web search for selected compiler errors, library names, or topics.
In-place refinement & insertion
Once an action completes:
- Press Return to replace the highlighted selection directly with the generated output.
- Ask follow-up prompts to refine the answer where it stands without clogging a permanent chat history.
- If direct text replacement is blocked by the host application, Ruru safely falls back to copying the text and displays a temporary notification.
