Terms of service

Last updated: September 6, 2026

These terms govern your use of Ruru, a macOS application made and operated by Atcharm (“we”, “us”). By downloading, activating, or using Ruru, you agree to them.

License

A purchase grants one named user a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Ruru for personal or commercial work. One license may be active on up to two Macs owned or controlled by that user. Organizations should purchase one license for each person who uses Ruru.

Your purchase includes the updates we release for Ruru at no additional license fee. We do not promise a particular feature, release schedule, future macOS compatibility, or continued support for a third-party tool or service. Your right to use a version already delivered does not expire, subject to these terms and technical compatibility.

You may move an activation by deactivating an old Mac in Ruru or the Polar customer portal. If that Mac is no longer available, contact us for help.

Ruru periodically validates licenses with Polar and may cache a successful validation for up to 30 days. Internet access is required to activate a license and to refresh it after that cache expires.

Free trial

Ruru includes a seven-day trial so you can evaluate the app before buying. It requires no Ruru account, email address, or credit card. Trial state is stored locally in the macOS Keychain, and reinstalling or clearing the app cache does not automatically start a new trial. After the trial, agent and assistant actions require a valid license; your local settings and history remain available on your Mac.

The trial does not include third-party subscriptions or API usage. You are responsible for any charges from providers you connect to Ruru.

Payments and refunds

Polar is our Merchant of Record and reseller for purchases. Polar handles checkout, payment, tax, receipts, license-key delivery, and refund processing. Your purchase transaction is also governed by Polar's buyer terms. These terms govern your license and use of Ruru.

You may request a full refund within 14 calendar days of the original purchase date. You do not need to give a reason for an ordinary request, although we or Polar may request information needed to locate the order or prevent fraud and abuse. Details are in our refund policy.

An approved refund ends your license and your right to use Ruru. Polar revokes the key, and Ruru will stop licensed features after the next successful validation. A temporary offline cache may delay that technical change for up to 30 days, but it does not grant a right to continue using Ruru after a refund.

Third-party tools and AI

Ruru can launch command-line agents installed on your Mac, call model APIs with your own key, and connect to external services such as GitHub or Linear. Those products are independent of Ruru and are governed by their own terms, privacy policies, availability, and pricing.

  • You are responsible for provider subscriptions, API charges, rate limits, and the content you choose to send.
  • AI output can be inaccurate or unsafe. Review code, text, tool calls, and shell commands before relying on them.
  • Ruru-managed connector actions that change remote data require your confirmation. A local CLI agent or custom script runs with the permissions of your user account and may perform actions outside Ruru's confirmation flow.

Your responsibilities

You agree not to:

  • share, sell, rent, sublicense, or publish a license key;
  • circumvent or tamper with the trial, activation, or license system;
  • redistribute Ruru or reverse engineer it, except where applicable law expressly permits; or
  • use Ruru or a connected tool unlawfully or in a way that violates the rights of others.

You are responsible for protecting your license key and credentials, granting only the macOS permissions you need, and keeping appropriate backups. Local agents and Git operations can modify or delete data.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or revoke a license after a refund or chargeback, or where we reasonably believe a key is shared, fraudulent, compromised, or used in material breach of these terms. Where reasonable, we will give notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue. Suspension or revocation does not delete your local Ruru data.

No warranty

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ruru is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every Mac or third-party tool, or that AI output will be accurate or suitable for your purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Atcharm will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, business, or data, arising from Ruru or a third-party tool. Our total liability relating to Ruru will not exceed the amount you paid for the license giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability or remedies that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including mandatory consumer rights.

Changes

We may update these terms as Ruru changes. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, noted in release notes. Changes do not introduce a recurring fee or remove a perpetual license already purchased without your agreement.

Privacy and contact

Our privacy policy explains how Ruru handles data. Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@atcharm.com.
