Ruru is a native macOS assistant that combines a small floating orb with global summon gestures, rich context attachments, streaming answers, and direct insertion into the focused text field.

What is Ruru?

Ruru is built with Swift, SwiftUI, AppKit, ScreenCaptureKit, and Vision. Instead of keeping a separate chat window open on another screen, Ruru anchors a floating orb directly at your caret while you work in VS Code, Xcode, Slack, Safari, Notes, or your terminal.

You ask a question or invoke an action, attach relevant local context, and receive streaming answers right where you are writing.

System requirements

Ruru is engineered specifically for the macOS ecosystem:

Operating System: macOS Sonoma (14.0) or macOS Sequoia (15.0 and later).
Hardware: Universal binary optimized natively for Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4 series) and Intel processors.
Footprint: Under 50 MB disk space with near-zero idle resource consumption.

Download and installation

Download the latest official release disk image (.dmg):

Download latest Ruru release (.dmg)

Open the downloaded Ruru.dmg.
Drag Ruru.app into your /Applications folder.
Launch Ruru from Applications or Spotlight.

First launch & onboarding

On first launch, Ruru presents a guided onboarding walkthrough to help configure permissions, summon gestures, and agent providers.

Built-in demo agent

Ruru ships with a built-in mock demo agent enabled by default. You can immediately explore the floating orb, summon gestures, and text insertion without needing an API key or local CLI installation.
